Fun fact: Wayne Caldwell led the successful opposition to a 1981 effort to replace 11 blocks of downtown Asheville with a shopping mall.
Wayne Caldwell is the award-winning author of the novel Cataloochee and its sequel, Requiem by Fire. He has also published two volumes of poetry.
In 2025, Wayne's third novel was published by Madville Publishing in Lake Dallas, Texas. Shadow Family was preceded by an experiment in memoir by the author, but the right form turned out to be fiction. Julia Franks, herself an accomplished novelist, says this about the novel: "Shadow Family is a touching celebration of family in all its forms. Tender, intimate, wise, and compassionate, the story explores the complexities of adoption, love, and forgiveness."
