Experiences of War

Story Medicine Worldwide's Elder Women Writers' Workshop

Start Date:
November 13, 2025
End Date:
when:
7:00-8:00 PM
where:
West Asheville Public Library

In today’s news reports from the front lines, we learn facts about war and how it affects people on the ground.  We learn that rather than glamour, war is retaliation, is destruction and suffering, never in proportion as families starve, burying their loved ones regularly, as they struggle to survive.  We, as elder women (over 60), have scanned our own pasts for the relics of the wars we’ve known, and taken inventory of these unforgettable moments.  We found the Korean War, Vietnam, and other conflicts of that time.  Now, we learn to recognize, break silence and speak about our own experiences of the wars we remember.  Through these readings, in the spirit of healing, graduates of Story Medicine Worldwide’s Elder Women Writers’ Workshop, along with Meta Commerse, tell stories of some first- and second-hand effects of war.
